The Navy Cross is awarded to any person who serves in the Navy or Marine Corps and distinguishes himself or herself in action through extraordinary heroism that does not justify the award of the Medal of Honor. These actions must take place within at least one of these three circumstances:
To earn this medal, the action must be preformed in the presence of great danger or at a great personal risk. The action must be preformed in a high conspicuous location among other people with equal grade, rate, experience, or position of responsibility. A multiple amount of minor acts of heroism do not warrant the award of the Navy Cross.
